City of Mission Hills, Kansas
2020
As part of the City’s infrastructure improvements, WRS completed the design for the rehabilitation of 68th Street and a portion of 69th Street from Belinder to Tomahawk, along with improvement to the associated stormwater system. The street design included a mill and overlay design, along with curb and gutter, sidewalk, and drive approach replacements. The stormwater improvements included renovation of the existing stormwater system to meet requirements of the City's masterplan. The stormwater system renovation included a creative parallel-pipe construction beneath a private golf club, a solution to save the City expense and to accommodate outfalling into an existing pond there without necessitating a rise in the pond surface.
Construction observation was performed to oversee construction and to provide a direct line of communication between the contractor and the City. A daily job report was completed for each site visit, along with multiple photos taken to document the work as completed. At the City's request, additional investigation and analysis was undertaken at 90 percent milling to try to ascertain existence of a suspected source of moisture causing potholing of the previous surface. The findings assured the City no additional expense for full depth replacement or underdrain installation was warranted.
