City of Mission Hills, Kansas
2009-2010

As part of the City’s infrastructure improvements, WRS completed the design of 67th Street from Belinder to 67th Terrace and the associated stormwater conveyance system.

The street design included a mill and overlay design, along with curb and gutter, sidewalk, and drive approach replacement.

WRS completed two alternate stormwater system designs for the project. The first design consisted of a traditional stormwater conveyance system comprised of curb inlets and pipe. The second alternate was completed in order to provide a solution that addressed not only runoff quantity, but also runoff quality. For this alternate, WRS replaced four curb inlets with street planter inlets, consisting of rain gardens and bioretention cells, designed to infiltrate runoff from smaller rain events, yet still capture runoff from the 10-year storm event and convey it in an underground pipe system to a nearby creek. Mission Hills chose the street planter alternative, and WRS completed the innovative green infrastructure project.
